Attending the Niagara-on-the-Lake’s In Bloom Festival

One of the biggest reasons to visit Niagara-on-the-Lake in the spring is the annual In Bloom Festival. This vibrant celebration welcomes visitors to experience the town at its most colorful, with stunning floral displays, unique culinary events, garden experiences, fashion, and live entertainment.

Throughout the festival, visitors can explore the Garden Fair. This is a lively outdoor market featuring local vendors, gardening inspiration, live music, delicious food, and beverages. It’s the perfect place to stroll, shop, and soak in the beauty of the season.

Fun Events That Take Place

One of the festival’s signature events is the Bonnet Luncheon. Guests gather for an elegant afternoon featuring a beautifully curated multi-course meal, wine pairings, and a whimsical bonnet parade. The creativity on display is incredible, making this one of the most memorable events of the weekend.

Another highlight is the Birds of a Feather Gala, an unforgettable evening that combines fine dining with breathtaking floral artistry. Each table is adorned with a unique floral installation, transforming the ballroom into a true work of art while guests enjoy a gourmet dinner.

For those looking for a more relaxed experience, the Bubbles & Bloom Afternoon Tea is a great option. Guests are treated to a traditional tea service! You can expect delicious finger sandwiches, freshly baked scones, pastries, and premium teas, all set against a beautiful garden backdrop.

Fashion lovers will also enjoy the STYLE Canada Fashion Show. Spring’s latest trends take center stage in a stunning outdoor setting. Grab a glass of bubbly, sit back, and enjoy an afternoon of style and inspiration.

What makes the In Bloom Festival so special is how perfectly it captures the spirit of Niagara-on-the-Lake in spring. Beautiful flowers, exceptional food and wine, and a welcoming small-town atmosphere all come together to create a truly unforgettable weekend. If you’re planning a spring visit, I highly recommend timing your trip around this incredible annual celebration.

Where to Stay: Serenity on the Lake

If you’re looking for the perfect home base for your Niagara-on-the-Lake getaway, I cannot recommend Serenity on the Lake enough. Located just minutes from Old Town, the location is perfect! You’re close enough to all of the restaurants, shops, wineries, and attractions that make Niagara-on-the-Lake so special, while still being able to return to a quiet and peaceful retreat at the end of the day.

What sets Serenity on the Lake apart, however, are the hosts. From the moment we arrived, they made us feel so welcome. You can easily tell how much they genuinely love what they do and how much they care about creating a memorable experience for their guests.

Each morning began with a delicious homemade breakfast, and one afternoon we were even surprised with freshly baked cookies delivered right to our room! The rooms themselves are beautiful, thoughtfully designed, and incredibly comfortable.

Serenity on the Lake is the perfect blend of comfort, hospitality, and location, and I couldn’t recommend it enough regardless of what time of year you’re visiting Niagara-on-the-Lake.

Where to Eat & Drink in Niagara-on-the-Lake

One of my favorite things about visiting Niagara-on-the-Lake is the phenomenal food and drink scene! From award-winning wineries to unique distilleries, there is no shortage of amazing places you’ll be itching to get back to. Here are a few of the places I visited during my spring getaway that I would highly recommend adding to your itinerary.

Inniskillin

A visit to Niagara-on-the-Lake wouldn’t be complete without spending some time at Inniskillin. Not only is the property absolutely beautiful, but it also has a rich history and is widely recognized as a pioneer of Canadian ice wine.

During my visit, we started with a guided vineyard tour, which is available for guests to book. It was fascinating learning about the winemaking process while walking through the vines and taking in the stunning scenery. Following the tour, we enjoyed a three-course lunch paired with wines, and every single course was exceptional.

While Inniskillin is best known for its ice wine, which typically isn’t my go-to, I was genuinely surprised by how much I enjoyed it. Combined with the incredible food, beautiful setting, and educational experience, this was one of the highlights of my trip.

Southbrook Organic Vineyards

Southbrook offers a completely different winery experience and one that I found incredibly interesting. The winery focuses on organic, biodynamic, and regenerative farming practices, creating wines that reflect a deep commitment to sustainability and environmental stewardship.

During our visit, we participated in a wine and cheese tasting that was both delicious and educational. The team member leading our tasting was incredibly knowledgeable and did a fantastic job explaining not only the wines themselves, but also the unique practices that make Southbrook stand out from other wineries in the region.

Even if you’re not a wine expert, this is the type of experience that leaves you learning something new while enjoying some fantastic wines along the way.

Spirit in Niagara

For something a little different, be sure to visit Spirit in Niagara. This small-batch distillery sits on a beautiful fruit orchard and offers a unique approach to craft spirits with a mission focused on reducing fruit waste. It’s such a creative concept and one that makes the experience feel even more meaningful.

In addition to the distillery itself, they also have an excellent restaurant, making this a wonderful option for lunch or dinner. If you’re visiting, I highly recommend ordering one of their cocktail flights. It’s a fun way to sample several of their creations and discover a new favorite while enjoying the beautiful orchard setting.

Experience the Shaw Festival

Another reason spring is such a wonderful time to visit Niagara-on-the-Lake is that the Shaw Festival is back in full swing. Widely regarded as one of North America’s premier theater festivals, the Shaw Festival has been a cornerstone of Niagara-on-the-Lake’s cultural scene for decades and is truly one of the town’s most iconic attractions.

Whether you’re a lifelong theater lover or simply looking for a unique evening activity, attending a performance is an experience you won’t soon forget. The productions are world-class, the venues are beautiful, and the level of talent on stage is nothing short of extraordinary.

During our visit, we had the opportunity to see Funny Girl, and we were absolutely blown away. From the incredible performances to the stunning production, it was one of those shows that keeps you captivated from beginning to end.

What I love most about the Shaw Festival is that it adds another layer to the Niagara-on-the-Lake experience. After a day spent exploring wineries, enjoying great food, and wandering through the charming streets of Old Town, there’s something special about ending the evening with a live performance.

Enjoy Your Time in Niagara-on-the-Lake

While Niagara-on-the-Lake is a destination worth visiting any time of year, there’s something especially magical about spring. The gardens begin to bloom, patios come back to life, wineries welcome visitors for a new season, and signature events like the In Bloom Festival and Shaw Festival are in full swing.

Niagara-on-the-Lake also effortlessly combines so many of our favorite elements- beautiful scenery, incredible food and wine, charming accommodations, and unique cultural experiences! Truly, what more could you ask for in a destination!

And perhaps the best part? For those of us in Western New York, it’s less than an hour away. It’s hard to believe a destination that feels this charming and picturesque is so close to home.

If you’re looking for the perfect spring getaway, consider this your sign to plan a trip to Niagara-on-the-Lake. I have a feeling you’ll fall in love with it just as much as I have! Happy travels!
